RETROaktiv – open call for the production of artworks
GONG and Kurziv – Platform for Matters of Culture, Media and Society are releasing an open call for production of artworks and participation in the final exhibition of the RETROaktiv project which is to be held in April 2017.
We invite all interested artists to propose artistic interventions in which they will reflect upon the eco-movements of 1980s, anti-war initiatives of 1990s, feminist initiatives, LGBT movement, as well as more recent forms of civic self-organization related to human and minority rights, dealing with the past, fight for public goods, education and media freedoms.
A total of four (4) works of art will be selected, three (3) of which can be in any medium, while the fourth selected work will be in the form of performance.
Selected authors or teams will receive the amount of 10,000.00 HRK gross which will be available for the production of new work and/or artistic fee.
The performance piece is to be produced in cooperation with Domino and Perforations Festival. The chosen performance is expected to take place in both Zagreb and Rijeka, where the festival is taking place. The amount of 10,000.00 HRK gross includes total cost of production, including fees, travel expenses and accommodation in Rijeka.
Interested authors are urged to take into the consideration the following condition: after the exhibition an auction of produced works will be held as a contribution to SOLIDARNA – Foundation for Human Rights and Solidarity’s “Culture for the Community” programme. “Culture for the Community” will further fund socially engaged cultural production and initiatives in the field of human rights.
Authors are free to choose form and approach regarding the following fields:
1. Peace activism and dealing with the past;
2. Human Rights;
3. Public goods and environmental protection;
4. Political system, democratization and anti-corruption.
The open call ends on 21 February 2017, and the results will be known by 28 February 2017. Selected works must be produced until 10 April 2017 at the latest.
The works will be selected by the representatives of associations GONG, SOLIDARNA – Foundation for Human Rights and Solidarity, Kurziv and Domino.
The call is anonymous and is open to individual artists and teams from the former Yugoslavia.
Applications should include:
• submission code;
• title and description of the proposal (up to 600 words);
• sketches and / or documentation.
