Towards a Different City: Can the Policy of Universal Basic Income be Applied to Serbia?

As part of the “Towards a Different City” series organized by the Ministry of Space, a discussion will be held on Tuesday, October 8th 2018, at 6pm, with Paul Currion on the topic “Can the Policy of Universal Basic Income be Applied to Serbia?”
Universal Basic Income (UBI) has become a mainstream policy topic in the last few years, but there is still a lot of confusion about what it is. Could UBI work in Serbia, especially given the range of social and economic challenges we face in the 21st century? This talk will describe the design of a basic income experiment for Serbia, and ask: What does UBI mean for the future of the state?
Paul Currion has recently designed a basic income experiment for Serbia, working with the UN Development Programme and local researchers. He is Chief Operating Officer of the financial technology startup Disberse, and previously worked as a consultant for humanitarian organisations.
The program “Towards a Different City” is made possible by the financial support of the regional office of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Belgrade.
