Introducing an alternative approach to engaging with archives and historiography, the digital ARchipelago platform employs Augmented Reality (AR) technology to overlay some of these historical images and videos onto their original locations in the city. Utilising the ARchipelago platform and its resources, the workshop will engage participants in media archaeological practices through presentations, discussions, and hands-on experiments. With Clarissa Thieme and Armina Pilav, we will look into various methods of archiving and archival mediums, technologies, and possibilities of compiling and contextualizing such media to show the diverse and multi-perspective narratives and experiences, offering a more nuanced understanding of the lasting impacts on Belgrade and other cities and societies in the post-Yugoslav context.
The workshop “Hands on the Archives: War Destruction, Collective Documenting and Technologies of War Representations” is part of the ARchipelago, an archival cross-media project in the post-Yugoslav space of the Goethe-Institut Bosnia and Herzegovina developed by Armina Pilav and Clarissa Thieme in collaboration with Kaya Behkalam (The Augmented Archive) and the regional partners Library Hamdija Kreševljaković Sarajevo, Dokufest Prizren, Un-War Space Lab Mostar, and CZKD – Center for Cultural Decontamination Belgrade.
