“Women of Troy” is an artistic catharsis that echoes peace by challenging the endless spiral of war and oppression.
Artpolis – Art and Community Center and Dodona Theater have the pleasure to invite you to the presentation of the theatre performance “Women of Troy” on November 22nd and 23rd, 2024, starting at 20:00 at The Center for Cultural Decontamination (CZKD), Beograd.
Theatre performance “Women of Troy” transcends time and space, transforming the ancient Trojan War into a universal metaphor for the endless cycle of human tragedies—an echo that continues to resonate throughout human history. This production, developed over two years, intertwines the talents of 15 theater artists from Kosovo and Serbia, rooting artistic and activist sisterhood in over 15 years of meaningful exchanges and network building between Artpolis and artists from Serbia.
Directed by Zana Hoxha and Maja Mitić, with a contemporary script by Shpëtim Selmani, “Women of Troy” based on Euripidies, carries a feminist perspective, capturing the resilience and sensitivity of women confronting the horrors of war—from ancient Greece to modern times, where wars and conflicts persist.
The characters of Hecuba, Cassandra, and Andromache are not merely figures from an ancient tragedy; they embody the suffering of women in today’s war zones, bearing the unimaginable weight of loss on their shoulders. Like them, women today continue to lose families, homes, and dignity, displaced and unprotected in a world that often views them as mere spoils of war. Daily, they withstand cruelty, violence, and injustice, all while hoping for a future where their voices resonate and their suffering is acknowledged. This unending tragedy reminds us that war’s scars linger beyond the battlefield, alive in the souls of survivors who seek justice amidst the ashes.
The performance will be presented in Albanian and Serbian by a cast including Maja Mitić, Shpëtim Selmani, Semira Latifi, Branka Stojković, Qëndresa Kajtazi, Labinot Raci, and Aleksandar Stoimenovski, with English subtitles provided.
Due to limited seating, please confirm your attendance by emailing: veneraismaili@artpolis-ks.com
