Diversity as resilience: creative pathways and collective foresights

The project is grounded in the values and relevant practices of cultural production and
cooperation with civil society. It is committed to the idea of European identity while respecting
cultural diversity, both in terms of its promotion (Article 151(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Community) and the need to promote the contributions of a diverse civil society as
part of our shared European heritage and Serbia’s own heritage, in both the present and the past.

The project establishes a participatory platform that explores, promotes and examines, through
cultural forms, fundamental freedoms and the values enshrined in the Treaty on European Union,
as well as narratives highlighting the specific contributions of human rights defenders, both
women and men, in Serbia’s past and present. This form of cooperation will generate new value-
based proposals, including ideas for joint policies and advocacy, solidarity, and knowledge
exchange grounded in participation, research and cultural production, without instrumentalising
artistic practice. Through the platform’s creative approach, we empower independent cultural
initiatives and support spaces for creative thinking that foster alliances and reach new and
broader audiences.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the protection and advancement of human
rights and fundamental freedoms by strengthening a shared culture as part of broader efforts to
promote social transformation, democratisation and the European integration process in Serbia.
Its specific objective is to raise awareness of the importance of independent cultural initiatives in
the struggle for human rights, carried out by and for actively engaged citizens through
knowledge exchange, artistic and cultural production, joint advocacy, support and solidarity.

The working model developed by the Centre for Cultural Decontamination (CZKD) will enable a
flexible response to urgent issues and needs arising in the public sphere, while supporting and
contributing to solidarity and coordination initiatives in Serbia. Together with its partners—the
Group for Conceptual Politics from Novi Sad and the Centre for Empirical Cultural Studies of
South-East Europe, which works to advance the cultural rights of minority groups, from
Niš—the project *Diversity as Perseverance* will create opportunities for diverse stakeholders
to participate and contribute to selected themes, including gender equality and the legacy of
women’s emancipatory practices, feminist movements, LGBTQIA+ rights, youth rights,
environmental protection and other relevant issues.

The proposed activities build on established good practices that foster mutual learning among a
broad range of collaborators and participants. They strengthen local capacities and support the
development of human resources, civil society, independent culture, artists and younger
generations, while ensuring inclusiveness and engagement with the wider community.
